DEATH RIDE ROAD CLOSURES DETAILS ANNOUNCED FOR SATURDAY, JULY 11, 2026
Markleeville, CA, July 9, 2026 – The Alpine County Chamber of Commerce 501(c)(6) Non-Profit announces the return of the highly anticipated 45th Annual Death Ride cycling event.  Road closures will be in effect on Saturday, July 11, 2026. These temporary closures are necessary to ensure the safety of participants and facilitate the smooth execution of the event.
The Death Ride, known for its challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery, will start and finish at Turtle Rock Park. Participants will undertake a demanding route that spans various highways and roads in the surrounding areas.
The following road closures will be implemented to accommodate the event:
CA-89 closed at 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM at Markleeville Courthouse to HWY 395
 
CA-89 closure moves from Markleeville Courthouse at 7:00 AM to Whorehouse Flats from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
CA-89 opens to all traffic at 12:00 PM
 
CA-4 closed at 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM from intersection of CA-4 & CA-89 to Lake Alpine.
CA-4 opens to all traffic at 4:00 PM
Markleeville will remain accessible to vehicle traffic during the entire event. 
We kindly request the cooperation of all residents and commuters during these temporary road closures. We ask for your patience and understanding while the cyclists make their way back between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. It is crucial for everyone to adhere to traffic regulations during this time.
The safety of both participants and the general public is of paramount importance to us. The event organizers are working closely with local law enforcement and traffic management authorities to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and the safe movement of all participants throughout the course.
