Sourgrass Recreation Area is a part of the Stanislaus National Forest in California. Smack in the middle of the Stanislaus River, this day use area is a great launchpad for a rafting trip, fishing trip, barbecue or day hike.
Location
Sourgrass Recreation Area is a day use area near Dorrington just off Highway 4. Take a right on Camp Connell road from Highway 4, and follow it for five miles. You'll come to Sourgrass Recreation Area. Bring some garbage bags though, and prepare to pack out all your trash, because there aren't any garbage cans nor collection service here. With a little preparation, this doesn't have to hamper your trip.
Features
What this spot does have though, is right-on-the-river access, a men's and women's restroom, simple charcoal barbecue stands, and an excellent (but sometimes steep) trail that runs along the mighty Stanislaus River. It's open to foot traffic and four wheel drive vehicles as well!
